Friday's song - Jared Mees & The Grown Children

I can imagine some schmuck like me in about twenty years, having heard this cracker on the radio or even a blog eh, hunting high & low for the album it's from, & feeling at least initially knocked down by how very different most of the other songs are. You can stream the others further down & hear what I mean - only 10.26 has a feel of the same band, and then just briefly.

I like them all actually, but the contrast certainly illustrates how garagey guitar & drums, as opposed to say, violins & vocal harmonies, can completely alter your impression of a song, and of a band. Perhaps it also says something about how similar most music is in terms of structure & theme, and how the decoration & setting have a huge role to play, just as they do in the feel of a house or apartment. That's one of the reasons cover-versions (done right) have such appeal, I think; they're a musical makeover - pimp my popular song.

A bit of a break in the weak-assed days of the week songs thing, recently - nothing really good came up for Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday & I even looked beyond my own hard-drive; fortunately Fridays & Saturdays feature much more in pop music, so we're good for a day or two. I think I might just carry on posting one song a day, just skip the themey thing unless a worthwhile tune presents itself.

That's great cover-art up top, by Mike Bertino, and you can see a really cool animated version, with music from the band, here. Bees is a very fine song, don't you think?.
