A few days ago I found a post about a '65 single - Indian Giver - by Chuck Bernard, it wasn't the same song as the one I knew by the 1910 Fruitgum Co, so I looked in my burgeoning music library, to find I'd grabbed another tune with (almost) the same title from Siblingshot last year.
Who knew? three different songs with nearly the same title... it must be a sign eh; but being a bit umm obsessive, and having unlimited time & energy for the unimportant, I found a few more; thirteen actually. With two exceptions, these are all different songs, spanning more than forty years, each (presumably) choosing to ignore the possible accusations of racial stereotyping.
Two are from the same artist - Chuck Bernard (not the pro-football centre), two are on the same record label; surprisingly, they're all pretty good... which is what I'm all about - finding cool music.
The sound quality on some of the 60's tracks is a bit rough - it's hard to find decent versions of rarities.
Oh, and strewth! - I must be nuts, right? - anyway, in roughly chronological order; here's what I found. (there's yet more, from "Spectrum Meets Captain Memphis"; but it's late & I can't find an mp3, so you'll have to wait).

Oh geeze HM! This post really tops the cake darling! Who knew there were 13 versions and one by the Ramones (!) You've simply outdone yourself xoxo! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteeleven different songs me dear, that's what got me.
ReplyDeleteNow , since you mentioned versions; I do have an alarming number of a popular valentiney song going back eighty years; think I'll spread 'em over ten days or so.
a Tart - you like a bit of structured noise, right?, the El Jesus one is umm, marvellous.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, HM. The only ones here I was previously aware of were the 1910 Fruitgum Co. as covered by New York's finest geeks, and the strung together title by Pere Ubu. Quite an education!
ReplyDeleteOh Lordy, pardon me! Yes, different songs! wow, just wow... *bows in admiration to the marvelousness of it all xoxoxo
