It seems to have been a long wait for Anya Marina's 2nd album - Slow & Steady Seduction Phase II; first it was mid-November, then early December, and now hopefully 20 January.To say I'm looking forward to it would be an understatement.
Perhaps it will suit those who've only heard & liked 'Move You' which featured on Grey's Anatomy, but the slow & steady (ha!) leak of album tracks suggests that it may not do justice to her voice & song-writing talent, both so obvious on the 2005 album - Miss Halfway. Of course one shouldn't expect an artist to keep producing the same old thing, and some years have passed now; but fans being fans, we do want more of what we love - and often unfairly resist, even if only initially, a change in style from our dearest favourite performers.
It'd be a shame to lessen the impact of Anya's voice with studio renta-rhythms or other obscuring features, and although Move You was a welcome single release last year, it's in-yer-face electronic-sounding snare/handclaps might begin to grate when they're echoed on other tracks like High on the Ceiling & Two Left Feet. I dunno, not heard the whole album yet, but the disarming charms of Anya on earlier songs like Clean & Sober or Lovesick (and others), do seem harder to discern... hopefully Slow & Steady Sedcuction will feel right as a whole.
Meantime, I'd warmly recommend Miss Halfway - let you know about Slow & steady when I've heard more.
